10 years ago the Pérez Cuevas family (Bodegas Ontañón) fell in love with a vineyard on the outskirts of Sotillo, Burgos, in the Ribera del Duero DO. A vineyard at an altitude of between 750 and 950 metres above sea level, with vines that are between 35 and 50 years old, in very poor soil with a high gravel content. But they fell in love not only with the vineyard, but also with the unique expression of the tempranillo. The grapes, here called Tinta del Pais, reach a higher concentration of colour and tannins than in the Rioja DOCa."Altos de Ontanon" is the second winery in the "Ontanon" family. The name stands for innovation and quality, from the vine to the glass.
