His career is classic: apprenticeship as a winemaker in Ennetbaden, Twann and Jenins, years of apprenticeship and travel in Maienfeld, Praz and in Weinfelden (Hans Ulrich Kesselring, Schlossgut Bachtobel) - a comprehensive, but deliberately purely federal experience tour. Thirteen years ago, the family (a word Eric uses frequently, because it is extremely important to him) decided to go into business for themselves as winemakers. "With interest-free loans from family members, I leased just under a hectare of vineyards in Stäfa." The 45-year-old particularly liked the narrow walking terraces, which allow practically no mechanical cultivation. The laborious manual work "in the foliage" has the advantage that each grape variety can be pampered entirely according to its individual needs. The Pinot Noir is happy about the sun, the white varieties love the protective shade. In summer, Lüthi has a barbecue and wine bar in the Rebhüsli, in the middle of the vineyard (VINUM, March 2012).
