Veneto

The Veneto region is one of the largest and most important in Italy. It is situated in the northeast of the country between the Emilia-Romagna, the Lombardy, Trentino Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia a. In the east, Veneto borders on the Adriatic coast, where the province with the eponymous lagoon city of Venice is also located. In the north it meets the Austrian provinces of Tyrol and Carinthia. Wine production has always played a decisive role in the Veneto and countless DOC wines and DOCG wines come from this appellation. Do you know them?

Soave, Amarone, Ripasso and Prosecco - all export hits from the Veneto and pillars of Italian viticulture. Famous and revered all over the world. But yes: please do not forget. One half of the Lake Garda area belongs to Lombardy, the other, the one facing Verona, to Veneto.

Valpolicella

The Valpolicella region is located in the Lessinian hills, north of Verona and east of Lake Garda. The wine region is divided into three sub-regions: Valpolicella Orientale in the far east, Valpantena north of Verona and the famous Valpolicella classico, west of Verona. The most important region internationally is Valpolicella classico. From it come the renowned wines Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG, Ripasso de lla Valpolicella DOC and Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG. It is precisely these luscious red wines that have made the region world famous. The main grape varieties include Corvina Veronese, Corvinone and Rondinella. Well-known varieties are also Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc or Pinot Gris.

Soave

Whoever is on the way to Venice by car will inevitably pass this Region with DOC status. Often without noticing you. The Soave classico DOC is located east of Verona. Red wine plays a minor role here. The Soave classico DOC became famous mainly for its fruity and accessible white wines, which come from the native Garganega.

Prosecco

The region where probably the most famous sparkling wine in Italy is produced, Prosecco DOC, is located around Treviso, the capital of the Veneto province of the same name. It is located in the very east of the region and partially runs into Friuli. The heart lies north of Treviso, between the towns of Valdobbiadene, Asolo and Conegliano. Only in this triangle may the high-quality Prosecco Superiore DOCG be produced. For the production of Prosecco, the grape variety Glera is used almost exclusively. The proportion must be at least 85 percent. Since 2021, there have also been Prosecco Rosés, for which a higher proportion of blue grape varieties is also permitted.

Lake Garda

When it comes to the Veneto wine region, people often forget about Lake Garda. Yet it offers a great variety of high-class still and sparkling wines. An important grape variety of the region is Trebbiano di Lugana or Lugana for short. It is characterized by its unique minerality. The region is also a real insider tip for lovers of high quality sparkling wines with an excellent price-performance ratio. The so-called Spumante Metodo classico. These sparkling wines are traditionally produced in bottle fermentation. From Lake Garda also comes the simple and easy drinking Bardolino. A red wine that is drunk young and no less popular: the rosé version of Bardolino, Bardolino Chiaretto.
