Moscato
Moscato
The Moscato grape is a very fragrant grape. Its aromas are reminiscent of citrus blossoms, apricots, honeydew melons and spices. One of the most famous wines made from the Moscato grape is Moscato d' Asti DOCG from Piedmont.
Moscato d'Asti is the second best-seller of this region next to the characterful Barbera d'Asti DOCG. A light and residually sweet sparkling wine is produced from the Moscato bianco grape variety. It is wonderfully fresh and accessible and is perfect as an aperitif. But the sparkling wine from Piedmont is also perfect as a dessert wine. It is an appreciated companion to Panettone throughout Italy. Moscato d'Asti is another example of the wine diversity of the Piedmont region. Alongside Roero Arneis, the great Nebbiolo wines Barbaresco and Barolo or Barbera d'Asti or d'Alba, it is another example of the unique class of this region.
But there are also wonderful dry wines made from Moscato. In Italy, for example, a dry Moscato is produced in Sardinia. The wine of our producer 1Sorso grows on the north coast of Sardinia, not far from Sassari. The vineyards reach up to the coast, which makes for a sensational wine. In the nose the familiar aromas of Moscato and on the palate a mineral and slightly salty note. An excellent wine to accompany Mediterranean cuisine from Italy.
