Producer
ALTARE ELIO
The winery was bought by the grandfather Giuseppe Altare in 1948. In the beginning, besides the vines, peaches, apples and hazelnuts were also cultivated. In 1976 the present owner Elio joined the winery and decided to plant the whole estate with vines. Elio's first years on the estate were marked by the serious crisis in Italy. Not an easy time for the winegrowers in Piedmont. So in the same year Elio and some friends decided to discover the miracle of Burgundy vinification for themselves. The trip to France motivated him so much that he left the traditional vinification on the side and turned to something new. The success of his wines, which continues to this day, has proved him right. The production amounts to about 70'000 bottles. Elio Altare has been awarded the Tre Bicchieri several times by Gambero Rosso and for his Barolo Brunate 2004 even 97 points by Robert Parker.
